| Nine centuries
of history, nine centuries of unbroken tradition, contributing first to
European and then global culture, make Bologna University unique and enhance
its stature as an outstanding seat of learning and research in a wide
range of disciplines.
Our society was formed by and transmits much of its culture through higher education; its future lies in the young people and students taking part in a new and productive series of university programmes and exchanges promoted by the European Union. The progress of scientific research has always been the product of joint efforts by scientists from all over the world: it is in this context that lectureships have been opened to non-Italians (there are currently about thirty at our university), that our institution has entered into numerous exchange agreements with other universities and that it takes full advantage of the European Union mobility schemes.
With this publication the University presents a brief and essential guide to its vast range of teaching activities and its organisation. More detailed information can be obtained from the publications (also available in English) which describe the individual faculties in detail. Finally, our web site at http://www.unibo.it is also an excellent source of useful information.
