The Association was founded on October 11, 1993. The objective of the association is to promote the study of literature in its theoretical and methodological dimension, as a comparison among literatures and as an inquiry over the thematic and formal heritage of western literary tradition. The association promotes research projects, scientific publications, conferences and seminars.

Current Bureau Members (2000-2003) are Mario Domenichelli (president), Remo Ceserani (vice president), Arturo Mazzarella, Massimo Fusillo, Paola Mildonian, Francesca Petrocchi, Simona Micali (treasurer). 

The association has been officially recognized by the AILC/ICLA and its members are also members of the international association, and they are invited to partecipate in all its activites, including the international congresses.
